Two types: a Levonorgestrol IUD (has a progestin hormone) & a Copper IUD (no hormone).How do they work? By preventing fertilization. The Progestin IUD increases viscosity of cervical mucous making it impenetrable to sperm. The Copper IUD inhibits sperm migration and viability.
