Revisemos las diferentes formas del útero y lo que puede significar para tu fertilidad. Cuando hablamos de diferentes formas del utero, estoy hablando del interior del útero. ¡Mira este TikTok para conocer todas las explicaciones! - Let’s start with a normal uterus looks like: it’s like an upside down triangle and should have no issues at all with fertility and the ability to carry a pregnancy to term
- A normal variant is called an Arcuate Uterus, or a small “heart shaped uterus”, as you can see this little indent here. Typically no problems with fertility or being able to carry a pregnancy
- Next, is a septate uterus. As you can see from the picture this uterus has a little fibrous band that goes down the cavity so it partially separates the cavity, but doesn’t fully separate it
- Bicornuate uterus complete separates it uterine cavity leading to TWO separate cavities (one on the right and one on the left)
- Uterine Didelphys is a full duplication of the uterus and cervix, so you end up having two uteri and two cervi!
The septate, bicornuate and didelphys all carry an increased risk of preterm labor, preterm birth or spontaneous pregnancy losses and even infertility. If pregnancy does occur it also carries an increased risk of needing a c-section. We can determine the shape by imaging like ultrasound/MRI or more invasive procedures where a camera is inserted in the uterus.

- Septate utero. Como puede ver en la imagen, este útero tiene una pequeña banda fibrosa que baja por la cavidad, de modo que la separa parcialmente. No lo separa completamente
- El útero bicorne completamente separa de la cavidad uterina que conduce a DOS cavidades separadas (un lado derecho y uno izquierdo
- Didelphys uterino, que es una duplicación completa del útero y el cuello uterino, por lo que terminas teniendo dos úteros y dos cérvix
Los septate uteros, bicorneados y didelfos conllevan un mayor riesgo de parto prematuro, parto prematuro o pérdidas de embarazos espontáneos e incluso infertilidad. Si ocurre un embarazo, también conlleva un mayor riesgo de necesitar una cesárea. Podemos determinar la forma mediante imágenes como ultrasonido / resonancia magnética o procedimientos más invasivos donde se inserta una cámara en el útero.
