+ the why GBS: a bacteria that is commonly found in the lower part of the digestive system (typically the colon) and in women—the vagina! Some women (about 1 in 4) are carries of GBS vaginally. We test all women with a GBS culture swab (at 36 weeks) to check for GBS
+ why we care
If you test positive, you can pass this bacteria to your baby! This can cause serious infections to your baby—pneumonia, blood infection, meningitis (brain infection)
+ the treatment
Newborn GBS infection can be prevented by giving antibiotics while in labor to any woman who is a carrier!+ que es
