Why I Wanted to be an OBGYN

I get a lot of questions about pregnancy, menstrual cycles, the female body in general, and SO much more, but another question I get a lot is why I wanted to be an OBGYN. I am so proud of my story and wanted to share it with you! You’d think I would have some long, drawn-out answer, but really, I can keep this answer plain and simple… delivering a baby as a third-year medical student changed my life.

If you’re not familiar with how medical school works, the first two years of medicine are spent in textbooks, exams, and cadaver labs. It’s A LOT of hard work but it all leads up to the third year where you get to rotate and see patients. It’s a lot more hands-on and you kind of get a taste of what each field entails and it helps you discover what you’re most interested in.

Funnily enough, before my OBGYN rotation, not gonna lie I was dreading it! I didn’t think I would like it but I try and always keep an open mind and a positive attitude, so I went in with that mindset. Man, did my life change! I never would have expected to love this field but I did! My attending let me deliver a baby and BAM. I knew right then and there I wanted to do this for the rest of my life.

I then went completely head first into this field. I quickly loved studying the material and I knew this new passion was important. I loved getting to talk to patients and listen to their stories. I quickly found a sense of empowerment to get to care for and help women. There is truly such a strong bond between women that can never be replaced and I discovered that throughout my studies, making my passion for this field even stronger. I found what sets my heart on fire and I’m so glad I did!
Down the road, I started my Instagram page and other social media pages to educate and empower women about their health and bodies. Once I went viral on TikTok I realized how many women wanted to understand and learn more about their bodies! It’s been a wild ride but I wouldn’t change it for the world, I love being able to connect with you all and hope that I can help you feel positive, beautiful, and excited about life!
