Fall is approaching and if you can’t tell, I’m super excited. I’ve been sharing a few fall things like the big fall preview post I did where I rounded up my fave fall fashion and home decor. I also put together all of the Halloween decor I love if you want to get started on spooky season a little early. I know with the weather being pretty warm it can be a little difficult to get in the fall mode, but something I know I love regardless of the season is read! If you didn’t know, now you do, I’m a big reader and when I have time love to dive into a new book.
With the new season almost *officially* here, I’ve decided I’m going to jump into reading (really dedicating some time to it) to bring in the fall vibes. There really isn’t anything better than cozying up with a good book, especially if the weather is crisp and you have a toasty drink in hand. Even if it still feels like summer where you live (I know it does in AZ), you can still enjoy all of these fall reads! I put together my favorite books for fall to give you a little reading list for the new season. Grab your PSL (probably iced right now…) and get ready to find your next favorite book.
Verity
The description: Lowen Ashleigh is a struggling writer on the brink of financial ruin when she accepts the job offer of a lifetime. Jeremy Crawford, husband of bestselling author Verity Crawford, has hired Lowen to complete the remaining books in a successful series his injured wife is unable to finish.
Lowen arrives at the Crawford home, ready to sort through years of Verity’s notes and outlines, hoping to find enough material to get her started. What Lowen doesn’t expect to uncover in the chaotic office is an unfinished autobiography Verity never intended for anyone to read. Page after page of bone-chilling admissions, including Verity’s recollection of the night their family was forever altered.
Lowen decides to keep the manuscript hidden from Jeremy, knowing its contents would devastate the already grieving father. But as Lowen’s feelings for Jeremy begin to intensify, she recognizes all the ways she could benefit if he were to read his wife’s words. After all, no matter how devoted Jeremy is to his injured wife, a truth this horrifying would make it impossible for him to continue to love her.
Why read it: If you’re looking for something a little creepy, a little suspenseful, and a page-turner to the very end, you have to read Verity. This is the only book out of my recommended list that is more of a thriller/suspenseful book, but it’s definitely worth the read if that’s your thing! Don’t worry, it’s not too scary! You’ll be guessing the end of this book throughout the entire read which is always fun.
It Ends With Us
The description: Lily hasn’t always had it easy, but that’s never stopped her from working hard for the life she wants. She’s come a long way from the small town where she grew up—she graduated from college, moved to Boston, and started her own business. And when she feels a spark with a gorgeous neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid, everything in Lily’s life seems too good to be true.
Ryle is assertive, stubborn, maybe even a little arrogant. He’s also sensitive, brilliant, and has a total soft spot for Lily. And the way he looks in scrubs certainly doesn’t hurt. Lily can’t get him out of her head. But Ryle’s complete aversion to relationships is disturbing. Even as Lily finds herself becoming the exception to his “no dating” rule, she can’t help but wonder what made him that way in the first place.
As questions about her new relationship overwhelm her, so do thoughts of Atlas Corrigan—her first love and a link to the past she left behind. He was her kindred spirit, her protector. When Atlas suddenly reappears, everything Lily has built with Ryle is threatened.
Why read it: I’m not going to lie, this description sounds like a good book, but it’s a little misleading. Let me just say, you don’t know what you’re getting into with this one. If you’re a crier, get ready for the tissue box! This book is one of my favorites and goes beyond just your typical romance. A must-read!
Ugly Love
The description: When Tate Collins meets airline pilot Miles Archer, she doesn’t think it’s love at first sight. They wouldn’t even go so far as to consider themselves friends. The only thing Tate and Miles have in common is an undeniable mutual attraction. Once their desires are out in the open, they realize they have the perfect set-up. He doesn’t want love, she doesn’t have time for love, so that just leaves the sex. Their arrangement could be surprisingly seamless, as long as Tate can stick to the only two rules Miles has for her.
Never ask about the past.
Don’t expect a future.
They think they can handle it, but realize almost immediately they can’t handle it at all.
Hearts get infiltrated.
Promises get broken.
Rules get shattered.
Love gets ugly.
Why read it: Another book that completely surprised me, I thought I knew what I was getting into with Ugly Love and was totally shocked. Honestly, I don’t want to say too much about this one because I think it’s best to just go into it not knowing much. That being said, definitely read it. You won’t regret it!
November 9
The description: Fallon meets Ben, an aspiring novelist, the day before her scheduled cross-country move. Their untimely attraction leads them to spend Fallon’s last day in Los Angeles together, and her eventful life becomes the creative inspiration Ben has always sought for his novel. Over time and amidst the various relationships and tribulations of their own separate lives, they continue to meet on the same date every year. Until one day Fallon becomes unsure if Ben has been telling her the truth or fabricating a perfect reality for the sake of the ultimate plot twist.
Can Ben’s relationship with Fallon—and simultaneously his novel—be considered a love story if it ends in heartbreak?
Why read it: Can you tell I love Colleen Hoover’s books yet?? November 9 is a great read that takes you through years and years of life between the two main characters. It moves quite fast and the timeline isn’t written like most books, so it definitely kept me on my toes. There was no slow start to this one, so if you’re looking for something to immediately immerse yourself into, read this book!
Book Lovers
The description: One summer. Two rivals. A plot twist they didn’t see coming…
Nora Stephens’ life is books—she’s read them all—and she is not that type of heroine. Not the plucky one, not the laidback dream girl, and especially not the sweetheart. In fact, the only people Nora is a heroine for are her clients, for whom she lands enormous deals as a cutthroat literary agent, and her beloved little sister Libby.
Which is why she agrees to go to Sunshine Falls, North Carolina for the month of August when Libby begs her for a sisters’ trip away—with visions of a small town transformation for Nora, who she’s convinced needs to become the heroine in her own story. But instead of picnics in meadows, or run-ins with a handsome country doctor or bulging-forearmed bartender, Nora keeps bumping into Charlie Lastra, a bookish brooding editor from back in the city. It would be a meet-cute if not for the fact that they’ve met many times and it’s never been cute.
If Nora knows she’s not an ideal heroine, Charlie knows he’s nobody’s hero, but as they are thrown together again and again—in a series of coincidences no editor worth their salt would allow—what they discover might just unravel the carefully crafted stories they’ve written about themselves.
Why read it: This is a super fun read filled with two unlikely main characters. The personality of Nora, the heroine, is too funny! She’s very sarcastic and realistic which makes for an entertaining read. If you haven’t read any of Emily Henry’s other books like Beach Read or People We Meet on Vacation, I would recommend checking those out as well!
The Hating Game
The description: Lucy Hutton and Joshua Templeman hate each other. Not dislike. Not begrudgingly tolerate. Hate. And they have no problem displaying their feelings through a series of ritualistic passive aggressive maneuvers as they sit across from each other, executive assistants to co-CEOs of a publishing company. Lucy can’t understand Joshua’s joyless, uptight, meticulous approach to his job. Joshua is clearly baffled by Lucy’s overly bright clothes, quirkiness, and Pollyanna attitude.
Now up for the same promotion, their battle of wills has come to a head and Lucy refuses to back down when their latest game could cost her her dream job…But the tension between Lucy and Joshua has also reached its boiling point, and Lucy is discovering that maybe she doesn’t hate Joshua. And maybe, he doesn’t hate her either. Or maybe this is just another game.
Why read it: Let’s be honest, we all know how this one ends, but it’s a fun read nonetheless. The banter between the two main characters is funny and engaging, and while some things might be predictable, there are still some surprises to be read! A great light, rom-com type book that is definitely worth the read!
